Chengalam parish ventured for the first time to have a hoty pilgrimage by foot to St.Alphonsa's tomb,Bharanganam,The lisue of Bharatam.Rev.Fr. Paul Vazhapandy was the vicar of that time and organized and lead this holy pilgrimage by foot to Bharanganam for the first timein the history of bharanganam parish in 1999.sunday school teachers ,catechism students and a few layman were the first pilgrims to walk to Bharanaganam Pilgrim Centre.This venture marked the beginning of St.Alphonsa pilgrimage by foot from different parishes each year.Now thousands of people participate each year in this St.Alphonsa Pilgrimage and make the holy procession a memorable entreaty to get blessing through St.Alphonsa .The participation of parishioners increased each year.Currently each year thousands of pilgrims including aged and young alike participate in this holy procession to recieve the blessings of St.Alphonsa.It has been an acknoledgment from the part of Bharanganam parish to include officially for the mass and other prayers on the occassion of St. Alphonsa's feast in july, strongly suggest the proof that Bharananganam parish value and cherish an affinity to the faithful pilgrimage of Chengalam parishers to this holy land of Alphonsa's tomb at Bharananganam.
